Round robin generator

45. Every team plays the other nine once, and each game involves two teams, so it is 10 × 9 ÷ 2. The general rule is N × (N − 1) ÷ 2: 6 teams is 15 games, 8 teams is 28, 12 teams is 66. Double it for home and away.

N − 1 rounds for an even number of teams (8 teams → 7 rounds, each team playing every round). An odd number needs N rounds, because one team has a bye each round (7 teams → 7 rounds with one team resting per round).

A phantom slot is added so the pairing still works, and whoever draws the phantom sits that round out. Each team gets exactly one bye per cycle, and the resting team is printed on the round so nobody turns up to an empty pitch.

Yes. The generator uses the circle method with a balancing rule, so in a single round robin every team's home and away counts differ by at most one, and in a double round robin the return leg swaps venues, so they are exactly equal.
