Played on one day, 36 games, at most 4 games on at once because each game uses two of the 9 teams and one always rests. So the 36 games need at least 9 time slots, and 4 fields reach it. As a weekly league it is 9 weeks, one round a week.

One time slot is one game on one field. Durations are slots × game length plus 10 minutes between slots. Teams can be asked to play in consecutive slots, so add rest time if your sport needs it.

How it works

Rounds, byes and match days for 9 teams

The generator uses the circle method: one team stays fixed while the others rotate one seat per round, so no pairing repeats and every team plays every round except the one that rests. Home and away are balanced round by round, and in a double round robin the return leg mirrors the first with venues swapped, shifted by one round so no team gets three home games in a row across the halfway line.

9 teams is the classic league size: 36 games in a single round robin, 72 home and away. Most amateur seasons at this size play twice; a Sunday league with 9 teams and one pitch needs 72 match days for the double.

36 in a single round robin: 9 teams times 8 opponents, divided by two because each game counts for both teams. Home and away doubles it to 72.
How many rounds does a 9-team round robin have?
9 for a single round robin (one more than the 8 games each team plays, because the odd number means one team rests every round); 18 for a double.
Is the home-and-away split fair in a 9-team round robin?
Yes, within one game: the circle method alternates the fixed team's side each round and flips the rotating pairs by position, so every team ends a single round robin with exactly 4 home games. A double round robin makes it exactly equal.
Why does a 9-team schedule have a bye every round?
9 is odd, so the teams cannot all be paired at once: 4 games use 8 teams and one rests. The generator adds a phantom seat and rotates it with the rest, so every team sits out exactly once per round robin and the rest days are spread evenly.
